Proficiency Based Learning

CCS Definition of Proficiency based learning.

Personal mastery begins with transparent academic and non-academic meaningful learning targets.  A student progresses at their own pace and is aware of where they are.  Students demonstrate proficiency in authentic ways. Teachers act as guides and mentors supporting students to take ownership of their learning and do their personal best.

Competency-based Education (iNACOL) –

  • Students advance upon mastery.

  • Competencies include explicit, measurable, transferable learning objectives that empower students.

  • Assessment is meaningful and a positive learning experience for students.

  • Students receive timely, differentiated support based on their individual learning needs.

  • Learning outcomes emphasize competencies that include application and creation of knowledge, along with the development of important skills and dispositions.
